Meet Dr. Lori Landis

Landis Veterinary Home Care was originally created by Dr. Lori Landis as a result of her desire to care for companion animals and their people in the low-stress comfort of their own homes. In recent years, Dr. Lori has seen an increase in the number of pets with chronic, incurable health problems such as degenerative joint disease, kidney failure, progressive neurologic diseases, and cancer. In order to respond to the special needs of these patients, she created a hospice and palliative care program with individual care plans tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient and their family. Her practice now focuses exclusively on palliative and hospice care and in-home euthanasia services. In 2017 she was part of the first graduating class of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care specialty program and became the first veterinarian in Maryland who is a Certified Hospice and Palliative care Veterinarian.

Dr. Lori grew up in Baltimore County Maryland but has lived in the Middletown Valley for the past 19 years. She received a BA in Biology from Hood College in Frederick, MD then went on to receive her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. She practiced general medicine and surgery at animal hospitals in Virginia and Maryland for many years before finding her calling caring for animals with chronic pain and life-limiting diseases. Outside of her professional duties, Dr. Lori remains active in her church and enjoys gardening, and generally being in the great outdoors. She shares her home with 3 cats and a dog and on occasion her two grown (almost out of college!) children.

Whether you have already decided it is time to say goodbye or are looking to preserve your pet’s quality of life for as long as possible before that time, Dr. Lori will work with you to help reach your goals. Either way, she will provide information and support to help ensure your last moments, days or months with your furred friend are enjoyable, comfortable and peaceful.
